OVERVIEW
The Sky Harbor Airport is a unique feature in northern Minnesota, and when Northland was awarded the runway project, we employed a dynamic approach to meet all the project requirements. The project consisted of creating new real estate in the existing Duluth Harbor for the realignment of the new runway. We were awarded all 3 phases, fill, surcharge, and construction.
To complete the project on time while minimizing impact on the community, we used barges to transport our bituminous mix across the harbor to the paving crew for placement. Good planning resulted in a smooth project that met the expectations of all stakeholders.
