Bituminous Materials
Bitumen is an essential component of asphalt paving. It’s the adhesive, oil-based product that binds asphalt together, and it can be recycled and reused many times. When Northland takes on road construction or repair projects, we use 20-30% recycled materials, putting much of the previous material back into the freshly-paved surface. We remove the damaged or worn surface in chunks, then mill and crush it into a finer aggregate onsite. When mixed with new asphalt and bituminous binders, the new surface will enjoy a long usable life. In addition to our stationary bituminous production plants, we have a mobile plant that allows us to produce material in different locations.

Bituminous Repair
When we repair roadways in Minnesota and Wisconsin, we use up to 30% of recycled bituminous and asphalt materials, allowing us to extend the usable life of these natural resources.
